On Thursday the 16th of May Marlborough College travelled down to us for the first of the winter exchanges we were hosting at school for 2024, they brought over 120 kids across 9 teams with the main fixture being the game between Marlborough College 1st XV and Shirley Boys’ 1st XV as it was the opening game for the Miles Toyota 1st XV competition. They arrived at school around 3pm and once we got them into the large theatre, we matched up our billets and off they went for the night, we had the 1st XI Hockey teams play a night game here at school, it ended up in a draw.

On Friday we started off the first round of games at 9am this being all the junior teams, Junior Rugby, Junior Football and Junior Basketball. The results did not go our way with Junior Rugby and Junior Football and Golf going down in close matches but Junior Basketball came away with one of the only wins of the exchange. At 10:30am we had the second round of games, this was all our first teams. 1st XI Hockey went down in their game, Senior Basketball also had a close loss, but our 1st XI Football boys came away with a good win.

This left the main event, the 1st XV match, The whole school came out to support all of the games, most flocked to this much anticipated game. Shirley came out of the gates firing, as did Marlborough, and we knew this was going to be a tight contest with both teams trading points. We hit the final 15 minutes of the match and Shirley were up 26-24 and were looking good. A late surge from Marlborough in the final 10 minutes meant they won the game 41-26 and ended the exchange on a high. Marlborough ended up winning the exchange with 7 wins from 9 games.
