Earlier this year we heard that the Christchurch City Council was struggling to maintain the Jack Hinton Memorial, on Anzac Drive. just on the other side of the river. As a school we decided that we wanted to tidy it up. Mr Wilson-Pyne’s Social Studies class, 9H was chosen. Mr Wilson-Pyne taught them about Anzac Day and also about the heroics of Sergeant Jack Hinton who won the Victoria Cross in the Second World War, the highest medal for bravery that a New Zealander can win. On Tuesday, 9H, Mr Wilson-Pyne and two of their other teachers, Mr Bell and Mrs Climo, both formers members of the New Zealand military spent the day at the memorial cleaning it up. It now looks fantastic and fully deserving of a man who served his country so bravely.
